Orange Coast College will unveil its new 9-foot Steinway concert piano Oct. 5 during a special concert celebrating the $4.8-million renovation to its music department facilities.
Music professor Brian Gould will play Gershwin's "Concerto in F" accompanied by the OCC symphony, conducted by professor Ric Soto. The symphony will also perform Prokofiev's "Lieutenant Kije Suite" and a rendition of a "Medley of Gershwin Songs" during the concert.
Concert attendees will also have the opportunity to tour the renovated music facilities, which include a new recital hall and redesigned rehearsal spaces. In addition, the college bought eight new Steinway grand pianos, six upright practice pianos and 26 digital practice keyboards.
The event, which includes a dessert reception in the music classrooms patio, will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the Robert B. Moore Theatre. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for OCC students.
