Police are investigating the origin of a skull and other human bones discovered in the backyard of a Pasadena home on Saturday, authorities said.
Police stumbled on the bones when they were investigating reports of a possible trespasser in the 800 block of North Oakland Avenue.
They never found the trespasser, but along with the human remains, officers discovered animal bones, incense and candles in what appeared to be a makeshift altar, said Pasadena police Lt. Jason Clawson.
The remains were taken to the Los Angeles County coroner's office for further analysis.
