Two women attacked at knifepoint at Castleton Square Mall told police they were able to scare the suspect away without a weapon.

One of the victims spoke to Fox59 over the phone, but did not want to reveal her name.

She said she and her best friend of 60 years were shopping Saturday afternoon. As they put their items in the trunk of their car just north of JC Penney, her friend saw a man with a knife who said, ‘Give me your purse or I will stick you.’

Without a second thought, she said she stepped in to protect her friend.

“I said, ‘You better watch out, I , I know karate and I’m going to chop you up.’ And he said, ‘Old lady I’m going to stick you’,” she recalled. “I was just thinking of something to say to him to divert his attention from my girlfriend. And I, I came up with the karate. I don’t know how I came up with that, because I, I don’t know anything about karate.”

She said she distracted him long enough for her friend to honk the horn and yell for help. The suspect took off through the parking lot.

Police do not have a detailed description of the suspect beyond that he had very short hair and was wearing a striped shirt with pants on.
