The accident happened in the 800 block of South Mickley Avenue Tuesday. Witnesses reported the vehicle was traveling at a high speed, before the driver lost control and struck the tree. The car then burst into flames.
"The one (boy) was pinned up between the dash and front seat and he was complaining 'I can't feel my legs, I can't feel my legs,'" explained Ensey. "As hard as she hit and as fast as she was going, she's lucky to be alive."
Fire officials said the teen driver sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Methodist Hospital. The three boys were transported to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in critical condition.
Fox59 is withholding the driver's name at the request of IMPD as investigators look into possible charges.
Her classmates said she is a well-liked girl at school.
"She always looked happy. She always had friends with her," said Kayla Richardson. "I wish they would've thought about it."
As the teens recover, people in the west side neighborhood are talking about what they believe led to the accident.
"They stole the car," exclaimed Ensey. "The car was supposedly her mother's car."
Another witness, who did not want her identity revealed, told Fox59 that the driver pleaded with her not to tell anyone she was behind the wheel.
"She just said 'Please don't tell, please don't tell.' And she was worried they was gonna tell she was driving."
Fox59 will have more updates on this developing story as they become available.
