A Cumberland man is in the Marion County jail after allegedly killing his wife inside their home.
Police said 68-year-old Chun Shik Shin killed his wife, 57-year-old Youngsook Shin, sometime after midnight Saturday.
Police told FOX59 News that Shin approached the deputy, but a language barrier between them confused the situation. They said Shin wanted the officer to follow him back to his home and even held out his arms—asking for the officer to cuff him.
When IMPD and Cumberland Police were called to the home, the body of Shin’s wife was found on the living room floor. Shin was taken into custody and was given a preliminary charge of murder.
Neighbors told FOX59 the area is quiet and they are surprised a murder was committed in their own backyard.
"I know there's a lot of good neighbors, but you never really know what happens inside. Someone can do a flip in a minute," said one neighbor who did not want to be identified.
Police said Shin died of blunt force trauma to the head. An official autopsy will be performed over the next few days.
Police said they've never had a problem at the home before. The couple had only been married for two years, and both of them had older children.
