Overnight fire damages two homes on near west side

Fire investigators search for answers in suspicious fire

Indianapolis

Fire investigators are looking into the cause of an overnight fire at a vacant home on the city's west side.

Indianapolis firefighters responded to the home in the 1100 block of Holmes Avenue shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday morning.

When crews arrived, they found heavy smoke and fire coming from the home.

Fire officials said the fire was so heavy that the vacant home next door also caught fire.

Fire crews got to work and had both fires quickly under control.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Arson investigators were called to the scene to begin searching for clues as to how the fire started.

Captain Rita Burris said no one was inside either home when fire crews arrived.

There were no reports of injuries to firefighters.

The total estimated damage is about $80,000.
