Formal charges were filed late Friday afternoon in Johnson County against 29-year-old Benjamin Farson, a 3-year deputy with the Marion County Sheriff's Office.¿

Farson has been charged with seven counts of possession of child pornography after an investigation involving the Greenwood Police Department and the Marion County Sheriff's Office.

The investigation into Farson's activities began earlier this month when Greenwood Police were alerted to an internet user in the area that was downloading known child pornographic files.

Officers got a warrant and seized Farson's personal computer while he was on duty working at the Marion County Jail Thursday night. Farson was later arrested and was locked up in the Johnson County Jail.

In an interview with Fox59, Farson's wife, Chieko, said her husband was innocent.

"I think somebody was using our computer. I think he's innocent," said Chieko.

¿Benjamin Farson admitted to investigators that he downloaded child pornography by mistake several times and that he was careless, but investigators are not buying it and do not believe it was a mistake.¿

Farson was fired from his job with the sheriff's department shortly after his arrest.

He's currently being held on a $56,000 cash bond.¿
