INDIANAPOLIS -- Indianapolis Indians infielder Matt Hague has been named to the 2011 International League All-Star team and will join Tribe manager Dean Treanor for the 24th annual Triple-A All-Star Game at Spring Mobile Ballpark in Salt Lake City, Utah on July 13. The game will be nationally televised on MLB Network, with first pitch slated for 7:05 p.m. MDT.
The 2011 International League All-Star squad is made up of 13 elected players who have received the most votes from ballots submitted by clubs' field managers and general managers (1/3), members of the media (1/3), and online fan voting (1/3). The elected players are joined by 17 additional All-Stars selected by the International League office. Each of the IL's 14 clubs will be represented in Salt Lake City.
In 79 games for the Tribe this season, Hague has compiled a .324 average (96-for-296) along with a team best eight home runs and 43 RBI. As of June 29, Hague's .324 average was the fifth best in the International League, while his 96 hits placed him in a tie for third among all IL hitters.
The Washington native has also been one of the hottest hitters in Minor League Baseball as of late, posting a .500 average over his last 12 games, while totaling 24 hits, 12 runs, eight doubles, four homers and 11 RBI. His 24 hits since June 18 are the second most in all of Minor League Baseball, while his 12 extra-base hits are the most in the Minors during that span.
The 25-year-old has really picked up his game in the month of June as he has posted team best totals in batting average (.385), hits (40), doubles (10), home runs (5) and slugging percentage (.625), while also tieing for the most runs scored (16) and collecting the second most RBI (15). The right handed slugger has also been one of the toughest batters to strikeout in the IL this season as he has fanned just 32 times in 296 at-bats, while also drawing 23 walks.
Hague will be joining Indians' skipper Dean Treanor, who was selected as a coach for the 2011 International League squad earlier this month. In his first year at the helm Treanor has led the Tribe to a 41-40 record heading into play on June 30, including a 34-23 mark since May 1.
Outfielder Alex Presley, infielder Chase d'Arnaud and reliever Tim Wood were not eligible to be named to the International League All-Star Team, due to their being in the Major Leagues with the Pittsburgh Pirates at the time the team was selected.
