SOUTH BEND - Two years ago at this time, Kelly Cares was more vision
than foundation, more dream than a movement.
But Notre Dame head football coach Brian Kelly and wife, Paqui, were
committed to pushing forward, even when the drywall and studs were
Paqui pushed away her anonymity and Brian pushed away much of what
little free time he had to keep their promise and tell her story of
Paqui being a two-time breast cancer survivor.
Today, the Kelly Cares Foundation, with its infrastructure fully
assembled, puts a human face on hope for breast cancer victims, pushes
awareness and education further into the mainstream, and backs it up
with dollars from the foundation.
"Ever since they arrived, it has been Brian's and Paqui's conviction
to be part of and give back to this community," said Al McKellar,
executive director for the Kelly Cares Foundation.
The scope of the foundation continues to expand.
The latest program is the Lodging and Dining Club. The lodging program
should be in place by the end of February.
