FLUSHING, NY—Mets Manager Jerry Manuel says Jose Reyes could possibly join the team this weekend.
Reyes played in a Florida State League game and was 1 for 5 with a ground rule double in five innings. Manuel says the shortstop will play in another game Thursday and be re-evaluated for a possible return to New York. Reyes began the season on the disabled list after he was diagnosed with a hyperactive thyroid during Spring Training. The levels normalized late in the spring but Reyes was put on the disabled list to begin the season. The Mets begin a three game series on Friday against the Washington Nationals at Citi Field.
Reyes missed most of the 2009 season with hamstring and calf injuries. He had surgery on his right hamstring but came into camp this Spring, "feeling 100 %". Reyes says he has changed his diet in order to keep his thyroid levels at a normal level throughout the season.
First baseman Daniel Murphy remains on the 15-day disabled list after spraining his right knee in a Spring Training game. He should be out until May as will center fielder Carlos Beltran who is recovering from knee surgery.
