NEW ROCHELLE, NY (WPIX)—Tim Cluess was hired as the 12th head coach of Iona College men's basketball, Thursday. Cluess comes to New Rochelle after stints at Suffolk Community College on Long Island and most recently C.W. Post.
Clues replaces Kevin Willard, who left to take the same position at Seton Hall.
Iona was 21-10 this past season.
"I'm extremely grateful to have the opportunity to come to Iona and lead this program," said Cluess.
"We are going to get to work right away and build on the great tradition at Iona. Competing in a league as good as the MAAC will be a challenge that I greatly look forward to."
Cluess spent the last four years at C.W. Post, leading the Pioneers to a 23-6 record last season. Cluess was named ECC co-coach of the year for the third straight season.
Cluess got his start at St. Mary's High School in Manhasset, NY, compiling a 120-33 record during 14 seasons. He coached at Suffolk for one season.
"Tim possesses all of the qualities that I was looking for in the search process for our next head coach," said Director of Athletics Patrick Lyons.
"He is a proven winner at every level that he has coached and a New York native that will push the program forward with our goals. We're ecstatic to have him on board."
Cluess played his college ball at both St. John's and Hofstra before embarking on a professional career in Europe and Australia.
