Christiansburg had a banner year in football, and now the Blue Demons have emerged as the mid-season favorite to win the River Ridge in basketball. Tuesday night, Shawn Good's team was on the road at Cave Spring.
Billy Hicks and company hoping to pull the big upset at home. Mikey Ferguson with other ideas as he gets into the lane for the hoop and the hack as Christiansburg led early.
Cave Spring went on a run to try and stay in it. The Knights get the easy bucket. But Ferguson would then deal to Patrick Cummings for the short jumper down low. The Blue Demons beat Cave Spring 76 to 48.
There was ladies action Tuesday night as well. It was a battle of the Blue Ridge, two teams tied for second in the district were matching up. Both Staunton River and William Byrd at 1-1 trailing Lord Botetourt.
Tiffany Sardin and her Terriers were on the road in Moneta trying to win in the Golden Eagles gym. Early on, it was all the home team as Jodi Salyer drives down the lane and gets the bucket and the foul, she scored the first five points of the game for Staunton River.
She gets some help from Shaniesha Robinson who scores inside on the in bounds play to extend the lead. The Terriers battle back though. Katie Abelseth hits the baseline jumper as the ball was passed around the perimeter against the zone.
Then Byrd goes inside to Jessica Rhodes. She gets the bucket and the foul, but not enough as the Golden Eagles get the win 52 to 32 over the Terriers.
