A wild Sunset League race ended with six of seven teams making the CIF Southern Section playoffs, and several local players took top awards for the 2013 all-league team.

Edison High senior two-way lineman Tico Fuga was named the Sunset's MVP. Another two-way lineman for the Chargers, Jesse Sosebee, also a senior, was named Offensive Lineman of the Year. Chargers' junior linebacker Manase Time took the Defensive Player of the Year honor.

"Those guys played big roles for us this year," Edison Coach Dave White said after the Chargers' season came to an end in November. "They were dominant."

Huntington Beach quarterback Kai Ross capped his varsity career by being named Offensive Back of the Year. Ross shares the honor with Newport Harbor junior quarterback Cole Norris.

"Kai had a tremendous season for us," Huntington Coach Eric Lo said after the Oilers defeated Newport Harbor, 42-28, in the CIF Southern Section Southwest Division championship game earlier this month at Angel Stadium.

Edison repeated as Sunset League champion. Huntington, Fountain Valley, Newport Harbor, and Los Alamitos all qualified for the Southwest Division playoffs.
