The United States women's water polo senior national team won gold over the weekend at the Canada Cup tournament in Gatineau, Canada.

The team, which featured Newport Harbor High alumna Kaleigh Gilchrist, UC Irvine redshirt junior Danielle Warde and Corona del Mar High sophomore Maddie Musselman, earned a 12-10 shootout victory over Australia in the title game Sunday.

Gilchrist scored twice in the title game for Team USA, which rallied from an 8-4 deficit late in the third quarter. Former UCLA standout KK Clark led all players with five goals.

The score was tied, 8-8, after regulation. The United States converted all four of its shootout shots, including one by Gilchrist, while Australia could convert just two.

This was the first senior national team tournament for Gilchrist and Musselman.

The U.S. Women's national team next hosts the Holiday Cup beginning Wednesday at Foothill High. Australia, Canada, Greece, the Netherlands and Russia are also competing in the Holiday Cup. Team USA begins with a match against the Netherlands at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Foothill.
