Three-star Virginia defensive tackle Jalen Alexander commits to Maryland

Three-star Western Branch (Va.) defensive tackle Jalen Alexander committed to Maryland on Thursday night, becoming the 21st member of the Terps’ Class of 2018.

The 6-foot-4, 288-pound Alexander chose Maryland over Georgia Tech, North Carolina and North Carolina State. He also claimed offers from Oklahoma, Georgia and Auburn, among others.

Associate head coach and wide receivers coach Chris Beatty, a Virginia native, recruited Alexander, who told Rivals.com in July that he felt comfortable with the growing number of fellow Virginia Beach-area players at Maryland. (In fact, one year ahead of Alexander are defensive tackles Brandon and Breyon Gaddy, both Virginia Beach natives.)

Alexander is rated the No. 28 overall prospect in Virginia and No. 105 defensive tackle in the 247Sports.com Composite rankings. You can watch his junior-season highlights below.
