The Terps previously had agreed to a Sept. 10 game that year at Charlotte, the first meeting in a home-and-home series with the 49ers, who moved up to the Football Bowl Subdivision level in 2015.
The Terps and Bulls have never met. Lance Leipold is entering his fourth season in charge of the Buffalo program, having gone 13-23 overall and 8-16 in the Mid-American Conference, with a 6-6 overall record last season. In Maryland’s last game against a MAC opponent, it lost to visiting Bowling Green, 48-27, in 2015.
The Terps open this season Sept. 1 against Texas at FedEx Field in Landover. They defeated the then-No. 23 Longhorns, 51-41, in their season opener last season, a game in which starting quarterback Tyrrell Pigrome suffered a season-ending knee injury.
