Digest: Terps topple Penn State in field hockey in 2OT

Carrie Hanks scored in double overtime to lead the No. 16 Maryland field hockey team to a 2-1 victory over visiting No. 6 Penn State (12-3, 4-2 Big Ten) on Sunday. Hanks took a pass from Madison Maguire to score just her second goal of the year. Lein Holsboer also scored for the Terps (10-5, 5-2), who have won four straight games.

Men's college soccer: Navy (2-9-2, 0-3-2 Patriot League) and Army West Point (8-4-1, 2-2-1) played to a 0-0 double-overtime draw in front of an announced 8,143 at Talen Energy Stadium in Chester, Pa. Mac Burke made seven saves for the Midshipmen.

Women's college soccer: Maddie Bové scored in the 20th minute to lift host Towson (5-10-2, 2-5 CAA) over North Carolina-Wilmington (5-10-2, 1-5-1). ... UMBC (2-10-3, 0-6 America East) fell, 6-1, to host Stony Brook (8-8, 4-2). Gabby Boehmer scored in the 75th minute for the Retrievers.

Women's college volleyball: Julymar Otero finished with 12 kills, 28 assists and 14 digs for her third triple-double of the season to lead Towson (19-3, 5-3 Colonial Athletic Association) to a 23-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-17 win over host James Madison (14-3, 5-3). ... UMBC (14-7, 4-1 America East Conference) beat host UMass Lowell (5-14, 0-6) in straight sets, 25-22, 25-18, 25-20, behind nine kills from Carmen Freeman. ... Cristen Coryatt had 16 kills to lead host Morgan State (3-15, 2-3 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) to a 25-15, 25-23, 25-20 victory over Delaware State (1-19, 1-3).

Major league soccer: Sebastian Blanco scored a pair of second-half goals to lead the visiting Portland Timbers (14-11-8) to a 4-0 win over D.C. United (9-19-5).

Horse racing: The Maryland Jockey Club will livestream Wednesday's post-position draw for the 32nd annual Jim McKay Maryland Million Day program on Facebook, Twitter and LaurelPark.com. Maryland Jockey Club hosts and racing analysts Stan Salter and Tim Tullock along with track announcer Dave Rodman and Acacia Courtney will handicap the races, and talk to owners, trainers and jockeys participating in the Maryland Million. First race post Saturday is 12:15 p.m.

Auction: Two pieces of Orioles memorabilia will be a part of an extensive auction later this month. The bat used for Frank Robinson's 500th home run and 1970 Brooks Robinson game-worn uniform are being offered as part of the Lelands.com Masters Auction on Oct. 27. The bat Pete Rose used for his record-breaking 4,192 hit in 1985 and the specially padded 1947-48 Brooklyn Dodgers cap worn by Jackie Robinson also will be a part of the auction, as well as the 1973 Secretariat Belmont Stakes Presentation Blanket from Penny Chenery and the WBC Championship Belt awarded to Muhammad Ali for his 1974 "Rumble in the Jungle" win over George Foreman.
