After visits by Maryland and Kansas, five-star guard Devon Dotson set to commit Friday

Just minutes after four-star guard Eric Ayala announced that he would be committing Saturday night, another Maryland target, five-star guard Devon Dotson, tweeted that he’ll be doing the same — but on Friday.

Dotson, rated the No. 24 overall prospect in the Composite rankings for the Class of 2018, is widely expected to choose between the Terps and Kansas, both of which reportedly visited him Wednesday. Coaches from North Carolina State also checked in Tuesday night, according to’s Adam Zagoria.

The Jayhawks have long been considered the favorite, with a more accommodating depth chart and an advantage in “Crystal Ball” predictions on, but Maryland received his final official visit. He visited College Park at the end of September with top targets Keldon Johnson and Eric Ayala, along with commits Jalen Smith (Mount Saint Joseph) and Aaron Wiggins, a fellow North Carolinian with whom he is close. There was a photo shoot:

A commitment by Dotson would give Maryland its third top-50 player in an important recruiting class, with Moses Brown, a five-star center, Keldon Johnson, a five-star shooting guard, and Ayala yet to decide.
