Editor's note: I wrote about Melo Trimble, Jared Nickens and Chinanu Onuaku at the Reebok Breakout Classic in Terps Trio. Check out that blog post here.
** Terps shooting guard commitment Dion Wiley scored 14 points on 5-for-10 shooting Thursday in Team Takeover's loss to Cali Supreme at the Peach Jam, according to InsideMDSports. Wiley was also selected to play this week for the East team at the upcoming Nike Global Challenge in D.C., according to CSN.
An above-average rebounder, a good defender and a space eater, Onuaku said Xavier, Seton Hall
and DePaul were the three schools chasing him the hardest, but they aren't alone. He was quick to
point out that he was also considering offers from Virginia, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Cincinnati,
Connecticut, Rutgers, Minnesota, Kansas State and Pittsburgh, among others.
Considered a stretch-four prototype with solid interior strength, the St. Maria Goretti rising senior has scholarship offers from 17 Division I programs, according to 247sports.com. The lengthy journey – he and his girlfriend counted down the days one by one on Twitter – afforded Geben a nice break from college recruitment, but he says he’s narrowed his list down to four: Maryland, Notre Dame, Villanova and Virginia, in no particular order.
“When I go to camps, they always talk about people working to be where I’m at right now,” said Trimble, who shined at the NBPA Top 100 Camp in Charlottesville last month. “That definitely motivates me to get in the gym because there’s always somebody who wants to go at me just to test me and see if I’m really what they say I am. I don’t want to let nobody down and let the other person think he’s on my level when he’s not.”
** ESPN W this week profiled Maryland women's forward commitment Aja Ellison.
"I obviously started playing late, and I admit I have a long way to go," Aja said. "But I'm a quick learner, and I think Maryland understands my situation. The coaches are willing to work with me, and they are good at developing players that did not come in that highly rated."
