Maryland combo guard commitment Melo Trimble ended his junior season with a championship.
Trimble, who earlier this year led Bishop O'Connell to the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference title, scored 34 points in guiding the Knights to an 85-75 win over Benedictine (Va.) for the Alhambra Catholic Invitational tournament crown last weekend. Trimble spoke to The Washington Post about O'Connell's win and Maryland's season.
“It was an up-and-down season for them and they didn’t have a lot of consistency, but every time I watch them play, it makes me want to play there more,” the junior guard said. “You can tell Coach [Mark] Turgeon really wants to win and I’m the same type of person, so I’m excited.”

** GatorHoopsRecruits.com caught up recently with Mount St. Joseph guard and Terps target Phil Booth.
“I’ve been hearing from Georgetown, Indiana, Temple and Maryland the most, but I’ve been still hearing from Florida,” Booth said. “Coach [Florida assistant coach Rashon] Burno has been texting me. He seems like a very cool guy and an interesting person. I’ve been able to develop a relationship with him.”
And as expected all three schools have greatly stepped up their recruiting. At first UNLV was leading the way, but Maryland and Georgetown have made a great jump and evened the playing field out greatly.
Morgan will announce his commitment March 27 at St. Frances.
** Terps shooting guard target Dion Wiley was held to 10 points last week in Potomac's 84-55 loss to Milford Mill in the Class 3A state title game.
Junior guard Rashaan Handy finished with a team-high 19 points, Hayward added 14 points and 19 rebounds and Wicomico held off a brief Calvert rally in the second half for a 76-66 win in a Maryland 2A semifinal at Comcast Center.
