Friendship Collegiate (D.C.) star Jalen Tabor, a four-star cornerback and the No. 1 player in D.C., told SBNation this week that Maryland is in his top two.

Tabor spoke about Maryland and Florida as his top two choices, but he also likes Florida State and Alabama. He said he considered making a commitment decision this week at The Opening, but will hold off and make his announcement at the Under Armour All-American Game in January.

Basketball recruiting

** Maryland center target Chinanu Onuaku helped Riverdale Baptist to the Falconers Summer League title.

Actively being recruited by Maryland, Kansas State, Xavier, and Cincinnati — all have extended scholarship offers — among others, Onuaku is a highly mobile big man with a tremendous upside, surrounded by, once again, a host of complements ranging from fellow low post figure in Montrose Christian transfer Taron Oliver to shooting guard Tre Thomas, an Our Lady of Good Counsel transfer.

** Terps women's basketball commitment Kristen Confroy was named the Cleveland Plain Dealer's Softball Player of the Year.

She's a slapper when she needs to be (.581 batting average), hits when it counts (35 RBI), knows how to get on base (.600 average) and knows what to do when she gets on base (23 stolen bases, 53 runs scored).

** Two rising sophomores from Georgia, South Forsyth guard Sarah Myers and West Forsyth center Jenna Staiti, both committed to Maryland.

"[Maryland] came to all of my AAU games," Staiti said. "They had a camp and I decided that I’d go to it because I was interested to see who they were since they kept coming to my games. I looked it up and was [shocked] that they’re top-10 in the country. I thought that was crazy.
