Maryland senior Matt Furstenburg has been named to the preseason watch list for the John Mackey Award, given to college football’s best tight end.
Furstenburg, a consensus preseason first-team All-ACC selection, started all 12 games for the Terps in 2011, catching 31 passes for 348 yards and two touchdowns. He was the ACC’s third-leading tight end for receptions per game (2.6) and receiving yards per game (348).
Furstenburg has caught 44 passes for 563 yards and three touchdowns in three seasons in College Park. He is one of 33 players on the Mackey watch list. The award, named for the former Baltimore Colts tight end, will be presented Dec. 6 at the Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
