Sports Terps Tracking the Terps

Plenty of highlights among Terps hoops targets

It was a good week for Maryland basketball recruitniks, who had plenty of new highlights to gorge themselves on, as you’ll see.

It was just as good a week for Maryland football recruits, who pretty much swept their high school competition, as you’ll see.

Basketball recruiting

-- Class of 2015 center target Diamond Stone was “dominant” at the 2013 NY2LA Sports Futures Camp last weekend. For proof, you can watch him dunk on people here.

-- Maryland has offered Class of 2015 guard Donovan Mitchell, according to 247’s Josh Stirn.

-- Class of 2014 forward target Gary Clark committed to Cincinnati on Wednesday. The Terps offered the athletic wing forward in July after an impressive summer, but were never considered front-runners.

-- Class of 2015 forward target Alex Owens committed to Central Florida on Tuesday.

-- Rivals.com unveiled its top 35 players for the Class of 2016. The lone locals are Carlisle School (Va.) forward Thon Maker and DeMatha forward Joe Hampton.

-- Speaking of Hampton, the sophomore said Maryland is “of course” among his top schools.

-- Class of 2014 commit Dion Wiley’s “DMV Elite Mixtape” dropped last Friday. It’s basically four minutes of swishes and dunks.

-- Class of 2014 commit Melo Trimble’s newly released YouTube is more interview than highlight pacakage, but it’s worth a look all the same.

Football recruiting

-- Class of 2014 wide receiver target Chris Jones committed to Wisconsin on Wednesday. The Terps were the first to offer the DeMatha prospect, but they may have other priorities in mind at wide-out.

-- Class of 2014 offensive line commit Larry Mazyck shows you what it’s like to be 6 feet 7 and 340 pounds on a football field. Hint: He's left tackle, and it looks pretty fun.

-- Class of 2014 defensive line commit David Shaw had some trouble staying onside in a win last Friday night.

-- Class of 2014 tight end commit Andrew Gray had a safety in a high-scoring win last Friday night.

-- Class of 2014 linebacker commit Tyler Burke helped anchor a strong rush defense and had a catch for 9 yards in a win last Friday night.

-- Class of 2014 quarterback commit Will Ulmer rushed seven times for 47 yards and had a touchdown in a blowout win Saturday.

-- Class of 2014 running back Johnathan Thomas had 32 carries for 254 yards and three touchdowns in a blowout win Saturday.

-- Class of 2015 offensive line target E.J. Donahue said the Terps and West Virginia stand out early in his recruitment. The Linganore standout also has an early offer from Rutgers.
