Maryland junior wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been named to two award watch lists ahead of the upcoming football season.
Diggs is one of 74 players, including 19 wide receivers, on the Maxwell Award watch list, which honors the country’s top collegiate football player. He is also one of 47 players on the watch list for the Paul Hornung Award, which honors the most versatile player in major college football.
Diggs is one of 10 players from the Big Ten Conference on each list.
A native of Gaithersburg, Diggs was second on the team in catches and receiving yards last season, despite missing the final five games with a broken right leg.
During the seven games he did play, Diggs had 34 receptions for 587 yards and three touchdowns. He averaged 83.9 receiving yards per game.
The Maxwell Award semifinalists will be announced Nov. 3. The three finalists for each award will be released Nov. 24, with the winner being announced as part of the Home Depot College Football Awards Show on Dec. 11.
Fan voting will play a role in deciding the Paul Hornung Award finalists and winner. Voting will open in late September, take place during the regular season and again during the bowl season.
The winner will be honored in late January next year at the Paul Hornung Award Banquet, held at the Galt House Hotel and Suites in Louisville, Ky.
