Notes as Maryland prepares for Friday night's spring football game at Byrd Stadium.
** Interesting to me that Maryland has said already C.J. Brown is the starting quarterback. Not a surprise that he is the starter – but rather that the team wouldn’t declare it an open competition with transfer Ricardo Young for the time being. Brown is coming off an ACL injury and is limited to 7-on-7 drills this spring. But he’s a team captain and I’m guessing Maryland wanted to demonstrate faith in him immediately.
** Consider that this is the first time in four years Maryland will open a football season with the same offensive and defensive coordinators as the season before. Last year, the defense was transitioning to the 3-4.

“It means a lot, especially for the confidence of the players,” receivers coach Lee Hull said.
** Tight end Dave Stinebaugh has a sore ankle and may miss Friday night’s game.
This could be a big season for the senior. He’s had injury problems and has played behind Matt Furstenburg and Devonte Campbell, among others. But those guys are gone now, and Stinebaugh (Perry Hall) is the presumed starter.
Also on the tight end depth chart: Brian McMahon (Atholton), who practiced as the backup quarterback for the final four weeks of last season after Maryland suffered a spate of injuries at the position.
We'll take a look at a group of emerging players in a story for tomorrow's paper.
