Maybe being under the radar is a good thing for Mark Turgeon's basketball team.
The Terps showed a few of their deficiencies in a 71-62 victory over North Carolina-Wilmington Sunday night at Comcast Center. The biggest thing was that they can't shoot from the outside (0 for 9 on 3s).
But Maryland also showed that they are scrappy, athletic and have some things to build on as they head to Puerto Rico later this week for some stiffer competition, starting with Alabama on Thursday.
Here are a few thoughts before I head off to the press room for interviews:
*Terrell Stoglin is very talented, and showed it again by scoring 22 points after starting the game on the bench. But he and Turgeon had better get on the same page soon considering the absence of Pe'Shon Howard.
*James Padgett seems to have come out of a two-year funk and Ashton Pankey seems to be recovered fully from the leg injuries that sidelined him for two years. Padgett finished with 13 points and eight rebounds while Padgett had 12 and seven.
*Nick Faust still is adjusting to the college game. Though he played much better in the second half to finish with seven points and six rebounds, he has to figure out where and when to take his shots.
I'll have more after Turgeon's press conference.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
