COLLEGE PARK -- —Junior point guard Pe'Shon Howard has been reinstated after being suspended for Saturday's win over Duke and will accompany his Maryland teammates to Boston College for Tuesday night's game.
“He's been punished. We welcome him back with open arms,” Turgeon said. “We need a mature, confident Pe'Shon moving forward for us to finish strong.”
Turgeon did not say why Howard was suspended.
The coach said during his media availability on Monday that — prior to the Duke game — “we weren't acting right off the court either academically.” Howard's grandfather, Bill Howard, said Monday that the suspension was not related to academics but would not elaborate on the reason for the suspension.
Averaging just 3.3 points a game, he has seemed to lose confidence in his shot. Prior to this season, Howard had scored in double figures eight times. His high this season is eight against IUPUI.
Turgeon said Howard's defense and playmaking are valuable.
“He really defends, gets through screens, has a good feel for it defensively and he can get us into our offense,” the coach said.
Nick Faust, Seth Allen and Dez Wells all handled the ball in Howard's absence.
