Derwin Gray, a highly touted class of 2013 offensive lineman, will not attend Maryland this fall because of academic issues, according to a source close to the situation.
Gray will explore his options and possibly attend prep school or junior college. According to the source, Gray hopes to improve his grades and enroll at Maryland in the future.
The four-star recruit out of Friendship Academy in Washington committed to the Terps this past June and played in the 2013 Under Armour All-American game. He was expected to compete for playing time on a young offensive line.
Maryland will now be forced to move foward without the player ESPN ranked as its top incoming offensive lineman. The Terps' season starts Aug. 31 when they host Florida International.
