Terps assistant Bino Ranson no longer under consideration for Coppin State head coaching vacancy

Maryland assistant coach Bino Ranson, who reportedly was one of three candidates recommended for the Coppin State head coaching job, is no longer under consideration, an athletic department spokesman said Friday.

Ranson could not be reached for comment.

Spokesman Rob Knox said he did not know who was going to get the job. An announcement will be made Tuesday.

Longtime coach Fang Mitchell, after 28 seasons at the school, did not have his contract renewed last month.

Ranson, who grew up in Baltimore, was one of five candidates interviewed earlier this week by athletic director Derrick Ramsey, who could not be reached for comment. Among the others who interviewed were Bowie State associate head coach Larry Stewart, the leading scorer in Coppin State history, and another Baltimore native, George Mason assistant coach Eric Skeeters.

The job reportedly had been offered initially to Texas Tech assistant Vince Taylor, who withdrew his name from consideration last week.
