Terps receiver-returner Diggs listed as probable for Florida State

Stefon Diggs, Maryland's leading receiver and returner, is listed as probable for Saturday's game against No. 10 Florida State. Diggs' ankle injury forced him to miss last week's Clemson game.

Maryland coach Randy Edsall said he was "encouraged" by Diggs' progress.

But tailback Wes Brown will have surgery to repair a torn labrum in his shoulder and will miss Maryland's last two games.

Brown, Maryland's leading rusher, had been playing with a torn labrum suffered -- most likely -- against Wake Forest on Oct. 6.

He might have continued to play were it not for an ankle injury, which tells you something about the way Maryland's season is going.

Once the ankle injury sidelined him, Maryland figured it might as well schedule the labrum surgery.

Brown isn't expected to be football-ready until shortly after spring practice. I could practically qualify as pre-med for all the injuries I've reported on this season. Labrum? Lisfranc injury? Sure, I know what they are. It's been hard to watch the succession of injuries this season.

Brown rushed for 399 yards and a 4.2 average per carry. He lived up to the promise that running backs coach Andre Powell described to me in training camp. "Most of the time when you pair up big and fast in football, it's a pretty good combination," Powell said, referring to Brown.

Edsall also said today that Maryland's spring game will be on a Friday night next year -- April 12. It had previously been held on Saturday afternoons.

Edsall is hoping quarterback C.J. Brown (torn ACL) will be ready for the spring. One quarterback we know will be ready is Ricardo Young, who was ineligible this season because of transfer rules.
