Maryland added another big piece to its class of 2015 Tuesday night, securing a commitment from Middletown offensive lineman Will McClain, who chose the Terps over rival West Virginia.
McClain had the coaches in College Park screaming.
“I was just thinking about it for the past couple of weeks, me and my family were, and I just felt like Maryland was the place for me,” said the 6-foot-5, 290-pound rising senior. “Before, I was just going around visiting and seeing what was a good feel. Then I narrowed it down to WVU and Maryland. After that, I just sat down and talked about it, and Maryland was my pick.”
And when McClain passed the news along to the coaching staff, everyone in College Park likely heard it.
“I gave coach [Randy] Edsall a call, and he was pumped; he was screaming and ready to go,” McClain said. “Next thing you know, he yells down to Coach Stud [Greg Studrawa] to get on the phone, and I hear Coach Stud running down the hall screaming: 'Is it Will? Has he committed yet?’ ”
That kind of excitement has been a regular thing in College Park recently, as the Terps have picked up over a dozen commitments in the past month. McClain certainly took notice.
“I noticed that they were getting a lot of getting and getting a really good class,” he said. “So I wanted to jump on board and make this class even better.”
Ultimately, though, his decision came down to one major thing: “The atmosphere. I love the fans, the coaches and everything there is just great.”
McClain received a three-star, 0.8417-rating in the 247Sports Composite as the nation’s 116th-ranked offensive tackle. To gain access to all of InsideMDSports.com's premium Maryland basketball, football and recruiting content, click HERE.
