* Consider the previous week -- an alarmingly flat Maryland performance against Syracuse. The Terps had zero sacks against the Orange and seven against Virginia Tech. That's like driving from zero to 60 in two seconds.
* C.J. Brown was a different player Saturday, more like his old self. He’s really been pounded this season. He had seemed tentative at times and simply worn down at others. Terps fans should be pleased to see him break out.
* Consider the stakes for Virginia Tech. It was Senior Day for the Hokies, who were in the thick of the Coastal Division race. Hokies fans must have been stunned.
* Maryland had lost five straight to Virginia Tech and hadn’t won in Blacksburg since 1949.
And a final note:
Since television coverage has been of so much interest to Terps football fans, I did a piece for Sunday’s paper on what the Big Ten Network is expected to produce. In its early days, BTN needed to sign multiple deals with cable providers so it could be widely available. A page on the Big Ten website says the network is available to more than 73 million homes -- a figure I repeated in my story. But another page says the figure is 52 million, and the network confirmed today that is the correct number.Copyright © 2015, The Baltimore Sun
