Ex-Terps cornerback Dexter McDougle suffers knee injury with New York Jets

Former Maryland cornerback Dexter McDougle, a rookie with the New York Jets, suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament during practice Sunday.

Jets coach Rex Ryan expressed concern regarding McDougle's injury to reporters following practice, and the team later announced the extent of the injury.

The injury happened during one-on-one drills. McDougle was covering a Jets receiver when, according to reports, his cleat got caught in the ground and he felt a sharp pain in his knee.

McDougle missed most of last season at Maryland because of a broken collarbone, but he still was selected by New York in the third round of the NFL draft in May.

He was in the running to be one of the Jets' top three cornerbacks.
