Defensive lineman Brett Kulka commits to Maryland football for 2014 season

Maryland Terrapins

Maryland football snagged an under-the-radar class of 2014 recruit this weekend when Brett Kulka committed to the program.

Kulka, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound defensive lineman from Edinboro, Pa., recorded 54 tackles (27 assisted) and seven sacks this past season for General McLane.

The rising senior isn’t rated on any recruiting sites, but had offers from Kent State, Akron, Bucknell, and Buffalo. Kulka received his Maryland offer in mid-May and accepted when he took a second visit over the weekend.

“Their program and their philosophy and what they do there seemed like a good fit for me,” Kulka said. “I looked like a good fit for what they had going and I’m hoping I can help them out.

“After, we met with a bunch of the academic staff there and took a tour of the classrooms and other buildings. It just looked like a place I’d want to spent four or five years there to help myself out in the future.”

This is the Terps’ sixth commitment for the class of 2014. Kulka joins David Shaw (Spring Grove, Pa.) as the only defensive recruits in the class.
