Backup Terps forward Auslander is out for the season

The Baltimore Sun

John Auslander, a backup Terps forward, suffered a left tibia fracture in a recent practice and will be out for the season, coach Mark Turgeon said today.

He is to undergo surgery soon.

The 6-7, 220-pound Auslander sometimes spelled center Alex Len. The junior played more last season, particularly before Len became eligible 10 games into the year.

Auslander is Len's roommate and helped serve as the center's spokesman with the media as Len learned English. Auslander is a former walk-on who earned a scholarship.

This season, Auslander played in four games, averaging 1.3 points. He started the second half of the Monmouth game on Dec. 12 after Turgeon became frustrated with the play of his frontcourt starters.

Maryland (9-1) hosts Stony Brook (8-2) on Friday night. I'll have a preview for tomorrow's paper.
