Joe Vellano and Stefon Diggs have been honored with weekly awards from the ACC, the conference announced today.
Vellano, a fifth-year senior, was named the ACC's defensive lineman of the week. In the Terps' 20-17 loss at Boston College, Vellano totaled five tackles, including 2.5 sacks for minus-22 yards. He also forced a fumble and contributed to a Maryland defensive line that allowed the Eagles to rush for just 8 yards on 27 carries.
Diggs caught a career-high 11 passes for a career-high 152 yards, including a 66-yard touchdown pass. It was Diggs' third 100-yard receiving game. He's now Maryland's second all-time leading freshman receiver (666 yards) behind Darrius Heyward-Bey (694).
This is the first weekly award for Vellano this season, and the fourth for Diggs. The true freshman is a three-time Rookie of the Week honoree, and has also claimed Specialist of the Week honoros once.
