The top-seeded Maryland field hockey team battled back from an early two-goal deficit to beat third seed Virginia, 3-2, in overtime Sunday to win the Atlantic Coast Conference tournament in Charlottesville, Va. The Terps claimed their eighth ACC tournament championship and first back-to-back titles since they won four from 1998 to 2001. Junior Katie O'Donnell was named Tournament Most Valuable Player. Seniors Emma Thomas, Alicia Grater and freshman Megan Frazer were named to the All-Tournament team. Goals by the Cavaliers' Charlotte Van Den Broke and Tara Puffenberger put Maryland into a 2-0 hole, its largest deficit of the season. In the second half, O'Donnell and senior Nicole Muracco (assisted by senior Alexis Pappas) scored for Maryland to tie the score at 2 at the end of regulation. Frazer scored the winning goal off an assist by Thomas from a penalty corner 1:52 into overtime. Senior goalkeeper Alicia Grater finished with five saves.

With the win, the Terps earned an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, which starts next weekend.

More field hockey: Top seed Ursinus (18-2) scored three goals in each half to defeat Johns Hopkins (13-6), 6-0, in the Centennial Conference championship game. It was the fourth consecutive meeting between the two in the conference tournament final.

Women's soccer: Johns Hopkins (16-3-0) defeated Dickinson (15-4-1), 1-0, in Allentown, Pa., to win its fifth straight Centennial Conference tournament. Sophomore Paulina Goodman scored for the Blue Jays. Senior goalie Karen Guszkowski made seven saves for Hopkins.
