Skinny: So certain was Rodriguez's end at Michigan that Maryland officials reportedly met with him during their coaching search while he was still in charge of the Wolverines. The writing was already on the wall, and Rodriguez's pink slip came two days after Randy Edsall was introduced as Maryland's head coach. Unperturbed by his raft of NCAA violations or combined 15-22 record in Ann Arbor, Arizona inked Rodriguez to a five-year deal in November 2011. The first two years have gone pretty well: Led by star running back Ka'Deem Carey, the Wildcats have looked less like the mismatched, square-peg-in-a-round-hole Wolverines teams and more like the inventive West Virginia outfits with which Rodriguez helped popularize the spread option.
