Maryland offense vs. Connecticut defense: Maryland coach Randy Edsall returns to the school he coached for 12 seasons and to a stadium — now 10 years old — that he helped open. Connecticut, which didn't play last week, will try to slow a Maryland offense averaging 45 points and 581 yards after its first two games. The Huskies defense is led by junior linebacker Yavin Smallwood, who had 16 tackles in Connecticut's season-opening 33-18 loss to Towson. The Huskies surrendered 156 yards and two touchdowns to Tigers junior running back Terrance West.
Connecticut offense vs. Maryland defense: After using six defensive backs in a dime defense against Old Dominion, the Terps are expected to return to their base defense against the Huskies. Connecticut running back Lyle McCombs had 76 yards on 17 carries in the season opener against Towson. McCombs, a preseason candidate for the Doak Walker Award for the nation's top running back, had 94 yards and a touchdown in last season's win over Terps. The Maryland defense has surrendered an average of 10 points and has as many interceptions (four) as all of last season.
