Terps will play Marshall in Military Bowl in Annapolis

Maryland will play Marshall (9-4) in the Military Bowl at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium in Annapolis, the bowl's president announced on Sunday.

It marks the first time the Terps will play in a bowl game since they appeared in the same game at a different venue in 2010. Maryland defeated East Carolina at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C., in Ralph Friedgen’s last game as coach.

That Maryland (7-5) was going to play in the Dec. 27 game less than an hour from its College Park campus had been speculated since the Terps became bowl-eligible with a road win over Virginina Tech on Nov. 16.

There were still other possibilities, such as going to play in Shreveport, La., in the AdvoCare V100 Bowl. But other factors led to the Military Bowl getting its hopes fulfilled by having the homestate team.

Boston College ended up in Shreveport.

The last time Maryland played in the Military Bowl, the school sold around 17,000 tickets. Military Bowl officials are hoping that even more tickets will be sold to this year’s game since Maryland hasn’t played in Annapolis since the mid-1960s

The team that normally plays there, Navy, will be going to Fort Worth, Tex., to play Middle Tennessee State in the Armed Forces Bowl on Dec. 29.
