An own goal in the 86th minute knocked the Northwestern men's soccer team out of the NCAA tournament in the round of 16 Sunday night at Louisville.
The Wildcats and Louisville were headed for overtime when a Northwestern player headed into the net a shot that looked as if it were going wide. That gave the Cardinal a 2-1 win.
The unseeded Wildcats finish the season 13-6-4. Tenth-seeded Louisville (14-5-1) goes on to a quarterfinal match at No. 2 Maryland.
Each team scored in the first four minutes Sunday. The Wildcats' Jarrett Baughman - playing with a mask after breaking his nose in practice last week - knocked in a rebound to equalize a Louisville goal from the second minute.
The teams were evenly matched throughout: nine shots apiece, three saves and corner kicks apiece.
