Rochester Lancers (1-3) at Blast (1-2)
When: Friday, 7:35 p.m.
Where: Baltimore Arena
Outlook: Going into the reduced 20-game regular season schedule in the Major Indoor Soccer League, Blast coach Danny Kelly said a good start would be critical; a slow start could bury a team. So, following a second straight loss to the Milwaukee Wave — 12-10 on the road Saturday — the Blast are in dire need of a positive result against Rochester to reach the .500 mark. The good news is the Blast comfortably handled the Lancers in their season opener, getting three goals from Marco Mangione and six other goal scorers in a 19-8 road win. Friday night's game is a chance for the defending MISL champions to make a statement in front of their home crowd, one that had to endure watching the Blast get blanked by the Wave, 8-0, on Dec. 7. Since then, the Blast found another way to lose to Milwaukee, seeing a 10-2 second half lead vanish with the Wave getting a goal from Carlos Munoz with 20 seconds left to complete the improbable comeback. With Milwaukee and Syracuse both off to 4-0 starts, the Blast — 2 1/2 games back — need to play with urgency and execution on Friday to get on track.Copyright © 2014, The Baltimore Sun
