Chivas USA selected Maryland forward Casey Townsend with the fifth overall pick in Thursday's MLS SuperDraft.

Townsend is the fourth Maryland player in three seasons to be a top-10 selection in the draft.

Townsend started all four seasons at Maryland and ended his career tied for third in Maryland scoring (43 goals) all-time. His team-leading 17 goals in 2011 was tied for the sixth most in a single season.

Chivas USA ended last season 8-14-12 (36 points) and eighth in the Western Conference.
