Bo Jelovac scored with 58 seconds remaining, helping the host Syracuse Silver Knights defeat the Blast, 9-8, on Sunday and end its seven-game Major Indoor Soccer League winning streak.

The Blast (8-3) dropped to one game behind the first-place Milwaukee Wave (9-2), while third-place Syracuse improved to 8-4 heading into its rematch at Baltimore Arena on Friday night.

The winning goal came after the Silver Knights, with an extra attacker on the field, won a free kick at the edge of the Blast’s area. Machel Millwood, a former Blast star, curled a shot toward the left post, where goalkeeper William Vanzela failed to hold on to the ball and Jelovac put it into the net.

The Blast led 8-5 after three quarters, but 16 seconds into the fourth, Millwood brought Syracuse within a point by latching onto a pass from Slavisa Ubiparipovic, turning a defender and beating Vanzela from 45 feet while the Silver Knights were short-handed.

“It was a great team win, it wasn’t just about me,” Millwood said. “We had the right recipe to win. ... Good championship teams win close games like these.”

Mike Lookingland led the Blast with four points. Vanzela made 30 saves, and Lookingland and Pat Healey each had three blocks.
