Tampa Bay Rays - PlayerWatch
RHP Jeremy Hellickson lasted at least five innings in his three straight starts, and he had a no-hitter with two outs in the fifth but got only one more out after giving up four straight hits. Despite a 38-pitch inning, he continues to pitch well returning from injury.
OF David DeJesus, out since mid-June with a broken hand, experienced some soreness after beginning a rehab assignment Friday in the rookie-level Gulf Coast League. However, he is expected to resume a rehab stint with Class A Charlotte on Wednesday.
3B Evan Longoria drove in both Rays runs, getting an RBI groundout in the first inning and a single in the seventh. Since his rookie year in 2008, he leads all major-leaguers in RBIs against the Yankees with 76 -- next-closest is Boston's David Ortiz with 64.
SS Yunel Escobar had his 12th error of the season, in part due to the Rays' defensive shifting. With Escobar right of second base, a high fly ball saw 2B Ben Zobrist run into Escobar as he tracked it down, allowing the ball to drop untouched.
OF Matt Joyce went 2-for-3 against Yankees pitcher Hiroki Kuroda, improving his career average against the 39-year-old to .391 -- 9-for-23. Kuroda said if he knew why Joyce hit so well against him, he wouldn't hit so well against him.
