Manny Machado didn't have the most auspicious first week of the season in the No. 2 hole in the Orioles lineup, but he made his presence felt there in a big way Wednesday night, belting that dramatic three-run homer off Red Sox closer Joel Hanrahan to give the O's a very uplifting 8-5 victory at Fenway Park. The home run capped a five-run ninth inning that saved the Orioles from their fourth straight loss and delivered an ego boost to the whole team after a three-game losing streak seemed destined to increase to four and leave the O's scrambling to avoid a sweep Thursday night.
