Ten reasons we hate the Yankees
The Orioles travel to Tampa on Tuesday evening to pay the New York Yankees a visit for the first time this spring. It comes just days after club officials got a little huffy about a comment by Yankees general manager Brian Cashman that the Orioles' 2012 season was an "anomaly." 7. Jeffrey Maier( Karl Merton Ferron, Baltimore Sun / January 10, 1997 )
Who doesn't remember the night that 11-year-old kid in the right field stands at the Old Yankee Stadium stole the first game of the 1996 ALCS from the Orioles? Maier reached over the railing and deflected a fly ball hit by Derek Jeter into the stands for a game-tying home run in the eighth inning. The case can be made that the Yankees really had nothing to do with it, since fan interference should have been called the play, but Maier was treated like a hero afterward and feted in New York for his big assist.
