There is a flip side to California Chrome's disappointing finish in the Belmont Stakes on Saturday. It means that we've got a chance to do this all again next year...and the next...and probably the one after that.
It'll be great when the next horse wins all three jewels of the Triple Crown, but it's okay to have the Crown still hanging just out of reach.
Think about it. If Chrome had won the Belmont, a year from now we'd be trying to get excited about the Kentucky Derby winner coming to Baltimore with a chance to move a step closer to horse racing's first Triple Crown since last year. Doesn't have quite the same ring to it as going after the first one since Affirmed won it in 1978.
So we've got that going for us, which is nice.
