Orioles promise 2013 fireworks and deliver

No, they haven't signed free agent first baseman Adam LaRoche, at least not yet, but the Orioles have signed on to sponsor the annual New Year's Eve celebration at the Inner Harbor, which is almost as exciting.

The giant fireworks display, which was sponsored by The Baltimore Sun last year, will be the grand finale to a party that will start at 9 p.m. and feature a concert by hot local band Outbreak at the Inner Harbor amphitheatre.

In other words, the Orioles are going to start lighting up the sky a little early. They open spring training in Sarasota less than six weeks later.

The New Year's celebration is expected to draw at least an Oriole Park-sized crowd. It won't be cheap, but it doesn't figure to prevent the Orioles from making any more player moves.

They're still looking to add one more power bat to beef up the middle of the lineup and launch some rockets out of Camden Yards.
