The Orioles rotation picked the wrong time to run into a couple of series problems last week. Wei-Yin Chen ran aground in a serious way, giving up 11 earned runs over 7 2/3 innings over his two starts. The O's needed a lot better than that to compete with the Red Sox and Yankees, but managed to salvage Sunday's game after Chen's early exit. Miguel Gonzalez also struggled again, giving up seven earned runs in 4 1/3 innings. The other three starters combined to give up just four earned runs over 17 1/3 innings (2.08 ERA). Overall, the rotation was 1-3 and allowed 22 earned runs over 31 1/3 innings (6.32 ERA). Ouch.
